{"id":140,"date":"2023-05-03T18:11:21","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T18:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiffaktning.se\/?page_id=140"},"modified":"2023-05-03T19:00:51","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T19:00:51","slug":"gear","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/spiffaktning.se\/index.php\/gear\/","title":{"rendered":"Gear"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What makes HEMA gear special\/different to Olympic fencing year?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IN both cases the gear is stab proof to 350n minimum.&nbsp; A thrust will still hurt, possibly a lot, but it won\u2019t puncture the fabric and penetrate you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HEMA gear is designed to take heavier blows than you would have for olympic fencing.&nbsp; So the jackets and trousers are padded.&nbsp; Then over that we wear hard shell protection on lower arms, shins, knees and elbows as well as a hood overlay to protect the back of head..&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gloves are also specially designed to protect the hands from hard hits but still make it possible to hold the sword(s)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When should i buy gear?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as you know you want to keep doing this and you have the money to do it!&nbsp; Its always better in your own gear.&nbsp; Buying gear can be expensive but each piece will last many many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start at the top and work your way down:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mask and Gorget<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overlay to protect back of head<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jacket and elbows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forearms and Gloves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legs, knees and shins.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where do I buy gear?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">List of the usual suspects<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What gear do i need for sparring in &lt;discipline of choice&gt;?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For foams &#8211; masks and gloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For metal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always mask, gorget, and, jacket.&nbsp; Trousers and back of head are strongly recommended.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then it\u2019s a question of what kind of sword is involved and what kind of sparring are you doing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For rapier thrust only &#8211; the minimum is enough and sensible gloves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For rapier cut&amp;thrust &#8211; the basics and then: knee, elbow, forearm and lower legs,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your rapier has light protection on the hand or you are going to be grabbing your opponents sword then you will need a heavier glove with protection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For sidesword, sabre, sword and buckeler &#8211; the basics and then: knee, elbow, forearm and lower legs, and heavy gloves such as red dragon are mandatory,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For longsword &#8211; the basics and then: knee, elbow, forearm and lower legs as well as heavy gloves such as SPES lobsters, or sparring gloves,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What other stuff would you recommend i buy?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chest protector &#8211; some use, some don\u2019t.&nbsp; Your choice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fabric deoderiser to spray inside gear with &#8211; it gets stinky and you will not be washing your gear weekly. &#8211; recommend spray for getting rid of smell of dog or cat pee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long socks &#8211; knee high either sports socks or fashion socks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very big rucksack &#8211; the gear is big and bulky.&nbsp; You want one big bag to put all your stuff in and then carry your swords separately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are changing\/storage facilities like for gear?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very limited.&nbsp; There are changing rooms in both but there is no place to store gear or to shower.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What makes HEMA gear special\/different to Olympic fencing year?
